Mr. Wayne Youngblood
2018 APS Luff Award

Fellow CartoPhilatelic Society member Wayne L. Youngblood, is the recipient of the 2018 Luff Award for Outstanding Service to the APS. Wayne is a lifelong stamp collector who began at age 8 and never stopped. Wayne is the current editor for numerous philatelic journals including The American Stamp Dealer & Collector magazine, The Collectors Club Philatelist, Topical Time and Duck Tracks. In addition to The American Philatelist he also is a columnist for Linn’s Stamp News and Philatelic Exporter. Wayne began his professional involvement with the hobby as an editor at Linn’s Stamp News, became editor of Scott Stamp Monthly then as editor-publisher of Stamp Collector newspaper. He is author of 10 books (including Stamps that Glow and All About Stamps) and has written thousands of columns and features over the years. He speaks extensively on the hobby to both philatelic and non-philatelic groups. Congratulations Wayne!
Checklist Editor David Wolfersberger has been busy working to finalize a major update of the Maps on Stamps Checklist and he is happy to report the new update is ready to ship. The Revision 8.0 update includes the addition of over 1000 new or previously overlooked issues, numerous corrections, and the addition of missing data such as catalogue numbers, coverage and grade. The updated Checklist has about 39,850 entries. It is now current through the February 2018 issue of Linn’s Stamp News – Scott’s Catalogue Updates plus other new issues.
 The 7th meeting of the CartoPhilatelic Society is scheduled to be held during the joint American Topical Association (ATA)/American Philatelic Society (APS) StampShow 2018, in Columbus Ohio USA, August 9-12, 2018. The date and time for the meeting along with the proposed agenda, will be announced later. This will be a great show, with about 100 dealers and 900 exhibit frames, plus many seminars and society meetings. Details about the show, including hotel reservations, are available at https://stamps.org/STAMPSHOW-SS.
Help is also needed to staff the ATA booth on the show floor. If you plan on attending during the week and can volunteer an hour or two, that would be greatly appreciated. The eagerly awaited Carto-Philatelist Journal Digital Archive is now online and accessible to members of the CartoPhilatelic Society.
Established in 1955 by a small group of avid topical map stamp collectors, the CartoPhilatelic Society is soon approaching its 65th year anniversary as an organized society. From its inception, the members of the Society have published an official Journal.
Although the Society has existed for more than sixty years, early editions of the Society’s Journal, The Carto-Philatelist, have been surprisingly difficult to acquire. There is a massive amount of detailed research gathered by Society members and others locked away in the printed pages of the early issues. Those original Journals also offer a unique window into the past operations of the Society through the often-exciting biographical sketches of the members, their communications with the Society, and the witty commentary of the Editors. A full run of the Society’s earlier Journals provides exciting reading spanning the last half century.
The officers along with some earlier members of the Society pursued the idea to make the original Carto-Philatelist Journals available using Adobe’s Portable Document Format (PDF). A complete set of Journals was assembled, digitally scanned, and converted to PDF format. The archive comprises 165 individual issues and over 3,840 pages. The members only, password protected archive can be accessed from this link or using the “Publications” menu on the Society’s web site. Just in time to help with a new year of CartoPhilatelic research, the Cumulative Tables of Contents (CTC) listings, complied by our European Representative, Mr. Volker Woesner, and introduced on page 19 of the January 2017 TNCP #56 are ready for download! 2016 ATA Distinguished

Fellow CartoPhilatelic Society member Bob Lamb has been named the 2016 American Topical Association’s Distinguished Topical Philatelist! The Distinguished Topical Philatelist is a “ very special honor bestowed upon a person who has made significant contributions to topical philately and the ATA in particular.”
Bob has been active in the American Topical Association (ATA) and other philatelic endeavors including serving as the Executive Director of the American Philatelic Society (APS) and is currently a Director of the ATA. His articles are printed monthly in the APS – American Philatelist. Bob is present at almost all APS and ATA shows and is accessible and gracious in sharing his vast knowledge of philately. More information on Bob’s award is contained in the May-June 2016 (v67 #3) issue of Topical Time.

March 31. Unless you have pre-paid for multiple years, or already renewed you dues, your membership has expired at the end of March 2026
