| Web Directory overview – 2022-09 |
A new research tool is available in the CPS Resource Centre (RC). The Web Directory is a curated list of over 800 philatelic and postal-related websites. Located under the RC – Resources menu, the links are categorized into 14 groups and presented in a series of expanding lists. RC Curator Lloyd Field is presently working to identify additional links that will be added to the Web Directory in the coming months. We look forward to hearing from the members with new links, especially links to non-English sites. Please send your feedback and new links to Lloyd using the contact form on the main site. We hope you find the new Web Directory a valuable addition to your philatelic research toolbox!

| Australia 2022-08-23 – 150th Anniversary of the Overland Telegraph |
On August 23, 2022 Australia Post released a new stamp marking the 150th anniversary of the Overland Telegraph in Australia. The AUD1.10 denomination single stamp depicts the outline of the Australian continent with a line showing the route of the telegraph with two dots representing the start and end points. In the center of the stamp is a depiction of a hand operating a Morse key. Along the bottom of the stamp are a stylized series of Morse code dots and dashes that spells out “Overland Telegraph”. The actual telegraph route stretched over 2800 km from Port Augusta in the south to Darwin in the north and was completed on August 22, 1872. Eleven manned repeater stations constructed along a virtually unexplored route received and sent messages in Morse Code, with banks of chemical batteries at each station providing the electrical power. Communication between the cities of the eastern seaboard, via Adelaide and Darwin, now took minutes rather than weeks. The electric telegraph was invented in 1837 and International Morse Code only adopted in 1865.

On Saturday August 27, 2022 members of the CartoPhilatelic Society met during the Great American Stamp Show in Sacramento California. Presiding over the meeting was CPS Vice-President David Wolfersberger. Additionally, the flagship journal of the Society, The New CartoPhilatelist won both a Large Silver and also the ATA Study Unit Journal Award (3rd Place) in the Society Journals Literature Class. Congratulations to all of our authors and Journal Editor! A report about the stamp show, member participation, and the presentation of the ATA 2022 Distinguished Topical Philatelist Award to David will be in the next issue of TNCP.
